Before Diablo 3 is officially sunset and begins repeating its past seasonal themes, season 29 will arrive with a solo-only mode and a rework of its endgame Paragon system—two common requests from fans over the years.

Diablo 3 season 29 is available to play in an early form on the game’s PTR starting today. In it, you can try its new “solo self found” mode that bars you from playing with others for the bonus XP or ability to trade items. Other action RPGs, like Path of Exile, offer this mode so solo players can have separate seasonal leaderboards from those who play in groups. Solo Self Found will also be available to play in Hardcore mode.

Paragon points, Diablo 3’s powerful endgame progression system, will now have a limit for each stat you can increase. Previously, you could endlessly dump points in your class’ main stat and defensive stat, which gave you an advantage for simply playing a lot. Now, you can only place up to 200 Paragon points in attack speed, cooldown reduction, critical hit chance, and critical hit damage.

Even in a post-Baldur’s Gate 3 afterglow, I love Owlcat’s 2021 CRPG epic, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. It’s a game so good, I didn’t mind replaying its opening act three times. Even as Owlcat gears up for its next major release, Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, the studio’s still lining up Wrath of the Righteous’ fifth DLC expansion.

The Lord of Nothing is a sequel to WotR’s second DLC, Through The Ashes, which released back in April 2022. Through the Ashes is a challenging, low-level adventure that takes place on the periphery of that chaotic first act I love so much. Instead of slicing through demon-invaded Kenabres and saving the day, you’re a schlub trying to stay alive in a warzone.

The Lord of Nothing will conclude that story, which centers DLC-exclusive companions Rekarth and Sendri, and seems to take you out into the frozen wastes of Sarkoris, the fallen barbarian nation explored in WotR’s later acts.

My interest was definitely piqued by the trailer’s inclusion of the main game’s war table, companions Seelah, Lann, and Regill, as well as what appears to be a player character at the head. My guess is that The Lord of Nothing will unlock new scenes …

If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you’re doing so on Chrome. It’s the browser I’ve used daily for over a decade and makes up over 60% of overall browser usage. Trailing way behind is Safari with 18%, followed by Edge and Firefox. I can understand then, why longtime browser contestant Opera has been thinking outside the box to stand out.

A few years ago, that thinking led to Opera GX, a version of the browser based on Google’s open-source Chromium codebase with “gaming-oriented” features like a CPU/RAM usage limiter and a Twitch sidebar, as well as memey gimmicks like a setting that’ll automatically wipe your internet history if it thinks you’re dead. Its latest feature belongs in that same boat: a “Panic Button” that, with a single press, will close your NSFW browsing session and open a new window with predetermined “safe” tabs.

Deus Ex, there’s a reason we all still bang on about it after all these years. I love you Adam Jensen, and I’m sorry your girlfriend did human experiments on you and gave you robot arms, but you just can’t compare to my man JC. Case and point: an absolutely ludicrous bit of simulationist detail shared on Twitter by streamer StickmanSham.

As we are all wont, Stickman was dicking around with some metal boxes to get over the security laser tripwires outside Smuggler’s lair. The squirrely arms dealer’s home security activates an autoturret to make Swiss cheese out of 21st century supercop JC Denton if he isn’t too careful.

While mucking around with physics objects to make a path, Stickman tosses a full garbage bag out of the way and next to a nearby oil drum fire (only in New York baby!). The garbage catches on fire from touching the drum, itself a fun bit of systemic interaction, but the next bit is the really crazy part.

After a couple of seconds on fire, the garbage disintegrates into random detritus, including some scraps of paper that waft away. You’d think these are just some sprites or models with no collision, but no, the paper is actually an objec…

Here’s my confession: I don’t have any idea what’s happening. In real life, yes, but also in every FromSoft game I’ve ever played bar Sekiro (there is a small lordly boy and he urgently needs me to stab everyone). I just kind of amble from room to room and kill whatever I find there. It’s a simple, caveman-like way to enjoy Miyazaki and co’s work, but it’s enough for me.

I’m gonna bone up on my Lands Between history with a new, thoroughly unofficial lore book (via GamesRadar) courtesy of author Geoff “SmoughTown” Truscott and publisher Tune & Fairweather, which was founded by Jason Killingsworth, a former editor at Edge magazine (which shares PC Gamer’s publisher) who more recently worked at Riot Games. To commemorate Final Fantasy 7’s major significance as a cultural export, Japan has officially designated today—January 31—as the official Final Fantasy 7 Day, marking the anniversary of the game’s PS1 release in Japan. The listing for the anniversary on the Japan Anniversary Organisation (JAO) website describes the game as “a huge hit in Japan and overseas,” and hopes that “more people will enjoy FF7, which is newly developed with the latest technology as the REMAKE series”. Feels like it gets earlier every year, right?

To be clear, this isn’t a national day of celebration with parades in the streets and time off work, it’s just an official yearly commemoration of FF7’s significance for games as a medium and the Japanese games industry in particular. Other entries on the JAO list that FF7 Day is on include things like “Wet Towel Day,” and “Yamamotoya Egg Sandwich Day” (which, to be fair, sounds incredible), so it’s not quite a Golden Week level of celebration.

Puzzle-platformer Europa has associate editor Ted Litchfield excited, and for good reason: It looks and sounds fantastic, and the demo did not disappoint. But the April 16 release date that was announced at the end of 2023 isn’t going to happen—instead, it’ll probably be out sometime this summer.

I say “probably” because that’s what developer Helder Pinto said in the delay announcement: A new release date hasn’t yet been nailed down.

“Europa began as a side project I created alone, and in the years since it has grown more than I ever could have dreamed, though we are still working in the evenings and weekends around our day jobs,” Pinter wrote. “I’m very proud of what we’ve done together—which is why I can’t stand the thought of releasing the game before it’s in the condition we want it to be.”

In a separate video, Pinto said the decision to delay the release was made for a few reasons, but generally speaking it comes down to wanting more time to tweak and polish the experience.
